“I cannot thank you enough for giving Suzanna and I the most amazing time and experience in India in 2014. The school is so special with the most enchanting and bubbly kids I have ever met along with a bunch of lovely smiley teachers. I will never ever forget my time there and miss it enormously already. Your guest house is absolutely stunning and friendly and the food was so delicious every night that I just couldn’t resist second helpings….”
“My name is Jenifer Gray I am a 74-year-old grandmother from England and I have just spent two weeks volunteering in GBPS. It has been a wonderful experience. Every day, I have sung and danced with the youngest children for the first couple of periods, followed by sessions with two children from various grades, helping them with English reading, comprehension and conversation. The pupils are polite, interested and keen to learn and have been a pleasure to teach. The staff too have been cordial, courteous, gracious and helpful...they are obviously dedicated to their school, their students and their profession. Thank you, everyone, for your welcome and support and for making my stay so memorable. I will miss you and hope to see you all again one day..... Jenny Ma'am. ”
“I have come to see the four months that I spent at Tikli in late 2009, teaching and living at the school, as one of the key periods of my life. It is no exaggeration to say that it was a transformative experience. The school was in its relative infancy at that stage, with only four or five age groups on top of the nursery classes, but the late Martin and Annie Howard had already instilled a very progressive and innovative spirit amongst the teaching staff. There was a sense that anything was possible if you really went for it, and the sheer energy and enthusiasm of the place was intoxicating. I think it taught me how much of a difference one can make even at an individual level, and I have tried to apply Martin’s mantra of “think global, act local” in all that I have done since - from my years as a lawyer in London, to my current life running a collection of businesses in South Wales.
I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had to live and work at Tikli, it was a watershed moment for me.
